Watsonville Community Hospital's Latest Achievements —
Your Support Makes a Difference!
Watsonville Community Hospital is now owned by the community
it serves! And because of your support, residents of the Pajaro
Valley are now ensured access to emergency services, outpatient,
and inpatient care.
We would like to share some accomplishments since the new ownership
took over on September 1, 2022, to improve the hospital's financial
performance:
- All major insurance company contracts were renegotiated. Between
September 2022 and March 2023, new payment rates will continue to
be implemented, generating over $11 million in additional annual
revenue for the hospital.
- In mid-October, new staffing schedules were put in place to reduce
the hospital's spending on temporary employees and overtime.
We have already seen hundreds of thousands in savings and expect to
achieve $8 million in labor efficiencies in 2023.
- Many of the hospital's open positions are now filled by local
candidates, helping to bolster the local economy.
- The new hospital board approved the purchase of a brand new,
state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab, which we hope to be
operational later this year.
- In October 2022, the hospital experienced its first month of positive
cash flow in many years. The earnings were fully reinvested in
the hospital.
- The hospital's budget for 2023 calls for a consistent monthly
positive bottom line by the third or fourth quarter of the year.
Our work is not done. PVHDP will continue to focus on ensuring
the hospital remains financially viable so it can provide quality
service for years to come.
